What do you think about having an "Open House Day" on 14-15 March (Saturday & Sunday)?
The main aim of this event is to give all community members a chance to get to know each other better and for launchroom owners to share information about their teaching activities. Sound okay? Like the date? Any special requests? This event is very much in the planning phase, so all input is extremely appreciated! Thanks to Salty Saenz for suggesting this! :)

I regret that I don't have "my" island anymore -- using a temporary parcel courtesy of AJ on Montclair South.

OK, weekends are not the best for me to be online, as I have to borrow time from my partner's computer. Saturday is better than Sunday.

I'm all for it! Date is fine with me. I'm ready to demo my work on Virtlantis (on which I'm blogging regularly on Ning, too). Even before mid-March I'll probably talk about my Virtlantis teaching to the VWLL-on-Ning group. Do drop in there if you'd not wait 6 weeks!

Anna,
Regarding getting everyone together at the same time, it's as you said, pretty unrealistic. I think we could plan to have info dispensers ready and/or make use of voicethreads (for ex. the existing launchroom voicethreads) for providing info to those from other time zones. I would likely pull a late-niter on 15 March for those who are not in the CET time zone.

Hey Anna!
Thx for the feedback. Regarding the common calendar, we have one here on the community website. We just need to get everyone using it and make people aware of it in-world. :) http://slenglish.ning.com/events

very nice idea.
The only problem I see is that ... when will everybody be online? I mean, the chance we have to meet everybody and to "see each other face" will be very little. And here comes one of the worst problem in SL: to know who's making what when where. Why don't we make a pubblic common calendar for the activities in Virtlantis? So that collegues/students interested in, let's say: english lessons, can always check what's on at a glance. I do not know you, but I'm very bad at remembering/writing down things, and for instance, I would like to attend some english class but do not find anything when I'm online (and get the information when I'm off line). We could use the calendar to "pay visits" to each other on the 14th and 15th or to organise some little meetings, etc.
Hi Kip! I guess it's a 'great' idea. Will invitations sent to the open public so they know what each of us do or will do in Virtlantis or just among the community members? Guess both situations will be nice, to launch it as an 'event' for the general public know and then offer the best of ourselves when meeting our colleagues sharing information, resources, educational tools, etc.
Just let me know if you find this combined activity useful....and one more thing to add is that we should plan to be 'present' at different times those days at least. Shall we make a table with possible times?
I think we should have a schedule otherwise residents won't be able take advantage of the open house themselves, if they have to stay couped up in their own area the entire time to facilitate visitors. Perhaps we could do it by quadrant so that people don't have top scatter around too much .. sort of like a traveling neighborhood dinner party .. just without the food, haha. We could post 1 informational schedule in each quadrant to orientate avatars ... then put temporary follow-the-number sign posts to match the 4 quadrant schedules, or some similar approach.
Oh, by the way .. wishing all of you a most unlucky Friday the 13th today. *evil grin*
