Pronunciation with Wlodek Barbosa

On Wednesday July 1st I plan to introduce phonetic transcription, to make it easier for pronunciation students to take notes and read those where some of those funny symbols are used (as they have been in some of my own notecards used for the Wednesday sessions). I'll reduce the technical jargon to its bare minimum, and will keep the whole workshop very practical. Students will have a go at actual reading (and for the intrepid - also writing) of some transcribed sentences.

Those who want to prepare beforehand have the following resources:

1. the notecard which I distributed to the [IFA in SL] group recently,
2. a more sophisticated document here (in pdf format).

After this Wednesday meeting, there'll be just one more before I take my holiday, i.e. on July 8th. I plan to spend it doing much less "phonetic" things: just chatting and having a good time :-)
